We know that we're not alone in feeling a little burnt out this October! With weather changes, gearing up to the end of the year, and waiting for shorter days, our plants mean more to us than ever. If you need guidance on the best houseplant care tasks to do this October weekend, you've come to the right place! Here's 3 quick and easy tasks to do!
Â
Make a pebble tray to give your houseplants a humidity boost!
Just grab a shallow dish, add in some pebbles, marbles or small stones, and fill the dish with water. Sit your plants on top, making sure that the water level is below the bottom of the pot. This will increase the humidity around your plant and protect it from some of the more drastic temperature changes that can come in fall.Â
Use this humidity hack on your most finisky friends; like ferns, calatheas and other tropical plant babes.Â

Sprinkle coffee grounds on the topsoil of your acid loving plants
This sounds super weird, but if you enjoy a fresh brew on a sunday morning, keep the espresso grinds! These can be a great addition to your houseplant's soil because coffee grounds are rich in nitrogen. Beware though, they can increase the pH of your soil, so its best to use on plants that love slightly more acidic soil; think begonias, amaryllis and more!
It's important to only use certified organic coffee grounds, only sprinkle a teaspoon or so, and of course, make sure the grounds have cooled before adding them to your houseplant soil!

Give your houseplants a shuffle to maximize sunlight!
Changing the conditions of your houseplants in small ways can build their resilience. This weekend is a good time to switch the position of some of your plants. It will give them a different type of light exposure and helps to mimic the changing light conditions of nature. Beware though, if you have a particularly sensitive plant, or a plant that is showing signs of weakness, it may be best to leave it be! But otherwise, now's the time to build your plant's light resilience before the harsh reality of winter sets in!
