3 must-do February Indoor Gardening Tasks

3 must-do February Indoor Gardening Tasks

February is that in-between month—winter is still in full swing, but spring is starting to hint that it’s on the way - for some of us at least. If you've been struggling with winter, and ready for the seasonal shift, odds are your houseplants have been too! This weekend, do these plant care tasks, and reep the rewards!

1. Flush Out Winter Buildup 💦🚿

After months of dry indoor heat, low light, and sporadic watering, your plants’ soil might be holding onto a lot of built-up salts from tap water. If you've been using chemical fertilizer, or bought new plants from stores like Home Depot, the soil might have a build up of nasty chemicals in it. If left unchecked, this can lead to crispy leaf tips, stunted growth, and unhappy roots.

How to do it:

  • Take your plant to the sink, shower, or bathtub.
  • Slowly pour filtered or distilled water through the soil until it drains clear from the bottom.
  • Let it drain fully before putting it back in place.

This quick "soil reset" helps remove mineral buildup and freshens up your plant’s environment—kind of like a detox before the spring growth rush!

2. Rotate Your Plants for Stronger Growth 🌀🌱

With these short winter days and sunlight that isn't strong, your plants have probably been stretching toward the nearest window for months. That can leave them looking a little thin, sparse and lopsided. February is the perfect time to fix that and get your plants into a fighting fit mood by rotating them!

Try this:

  • Rotate your plant 90 degrees every time you water to encourage even growth.
  • If one side looks extra leggy, turn that side away from the light for a few weeks to balance it out.
  • For bushier plants, pinch back leggy stems to encourage fresh, compact growth.

Think of it as a mini workout for your plant—keeping it strong, balanced, and ready to grow when the seasons change!

3. Start Prepping for Spring’s Arrival 🌱☀️

While it’s still cold outside, February is actually the perfect time to get your plants ready for the big spring growth season. Instead of waiting until the last minute, start easing them into more active care now.

Get ahead of the transition:

  • If your plants have been in a dark corner all winter, gradually move them closer to brighter light.
  • Continue using We the Wild Grow Concentrate and Enrich Powder. It will keep your plants thriving all year round.
  • If you use a humidifier, start thinking about the time to dial it down. Once spring starts to take hold, you probably won't need it!
