3 Planty Projects to Try with Your Kids This Summer Break

3 Planty Projects to Try with Your Kids This Summer Break

Another week of summer break looms ahead... if you're running out of things to do here are 3 ideas that are perfect for all ages:

1. Potty Party: Decorate & Plant!

Not that kind of potty party (although are hearts go out to you if you're potty training this summer!)

Mini terracotta pots are super cute and perfect for small, easy-to-care-for plants like succulents. Grab some non-toxic paint and turn these pots into mini masterpieces! Head to your local nursery and pick out your succulent or try growing something from seed! (Use Grow and Enrich on succulents and seeds to help keep these new friends alive and healthy!)

2. Teeny Tiny Worlds: DIY Terrarium

Terrariums are a great way to bring a touch of the outdoors inside. Grab a clear glass container with a lid (a mason jar works perfectly!). Next, layer pebbles at the bottom for drainage. Then, add in some moistened potting mix and choose your tiny plants! Mosses, small ferns, and creeping vines are all terrarium-friendly options. Terrariums are relatively low-maintenance, so they can enjoy watching their little world flourish with minimal effort.

3. Upcycled & Growing: Seed Egg Cartons

Who knew an egg carton could become a sprout haven? This eco-friendly project is perfect for younger children. Carefully help them separate the sections of the carton. Poke a drainage hole in the bottom of each cup. Fill with potting mix and plant a fast-growing seed like beans or peas in each section. Label the cartons with markers so they can keep track of what's growing where. Place the carton on a sunny windowsill and watch the magic happen! (Pro tip: mix Enrich into your potting soil to give these seeds the best chance of survival!)

Bonus Project:

Propagation kits are another fun option that is super easy! Check out Margaret's tips for propagating with her 4 year old.

We hope this gives you a little inspo to get your kids growing this summer! Plant projects are a rewarding way to nurture a love of nature, spark creativity, and teach valuable lessons about responsibility. Happy planting!
