Spring is finally here! And you know what that means? It's repotting time!
Repotting might seem intimidating, but this guide will have you feeling like a pro in no time.
Do I Need to Repot My Plants?
You don't have to go crazy and repot all of your plants this spring, instead look for these signs:
- Roots poking out the drainage holes or from the bottom of the pot.
- The pot feels solid when you press on the sides because it's packed with roots.
- Your plants dry out very quickly after watering.
- There's little to no new growth, or the new growth is small and weak.
- The plant's overall growth is slow or nonexistent.
Choosing the Right Pot
As a general rule:
- If your current pot is less than 10 inches in diameter, go up one size (1-2 inches).
- If your pot is bigger than 10 inches, jump up a couple of sizes (2-4 inches).
Should I Remove the Old Soil?
Yes! Repotting is a great chance to refresh your plant's soil. Most potting mixes can become compact and lose nutrients over time. This refresh will give your plants a boost and ensure proper drainage.
How to Repot Your Plant
- Remove the plant from its current pot: Gently hold the base of the plant and turn the pot sideways. Tap and squeeze the sides of the pot while carefully pulling on the plant's base to loosen it.
- Remove soil and loosen roots: Shake off any loose soil and gently remove the rest. You can compost this old soil, or mix it with Enrich Powder, moisten it, and revitalize it in a sealed plastic bag.
- Prepare your soil: Use a well-draining potting mix you like and add a generous amount of Enrich Powder. Mix it thoroughly - more is better, and it won't harm your plants.
- Let's repot! Add a layer of your enriched soil to the new pot. Add a tablespoon of Enrich Powder where you'll place the plant. Center your plant and fill in around it with more soil. Gently shake, tap, and pat down the soil until the plant is secure.
- Water thoroughly: Plants get stressed during repotting, so give your newly potted friend a good drink with Grow Concentrate right after.
